Benicia’s Andre Lewis ‘booking’ time to help others

Andrew Lewis, a pilot and author, holds some of his books up at Community Day Celebrating Literacy hosted by Literary Tools. Lewis, who has written 17 books, gave out hundreds for free at the Benicia Yacht Club on Saturday. (Thomas Gase - Times-Herald)

As a veteran airline pilot, Andre Lewis has basically seen it all. Flying planes for FedEx, he’s landed in every single continent. When he’s not in the air, however, Lewis is making sure others learn how to get their own wings.

The Benician is also an author of 17 books written in a graphic novel approach, which teach kids about solving problems and becoming aware of their surroundings and how to handle them. The books focus on anything from anti-bullying, the police, fitness, witnessing a drive-by shooting, alcohol, to working together in a diversive group to reach a common goal, like in the newest addition to Lewis’ library — “Excited to Serve.”
